  16. 3.5e of Almanac for Windows.  Topics discussed in

  26. REGISTRATION
  27. ------------
  28. Almanac is not free software.  It is released as
  29. shareware, which provides the opportunity for the
  30. program to be evaluated before it is purchased.
  31.  
  32. We hope that after you try Almanac you will like
  33. it so much that you will want to register.  By
  34. doing so you are voting with your pocketbook for
  35. us to continue developing high-quality, Windows
  36. shareware.

  38. Complete information on how to register Almanac
  39. is included in the REGISTER.TXT file.
  40.  
  41. Customers who have registered a previous version
  42. of Almanac should refer to the UPGRADE.TXT file
  43. for upgrading information.

  46. COMPATIBILITY
  47. -------------
  48. This version of Almanac includes components for
  49. 16 and 32 bit Windows platforms.  SETUP will
  50. automatically install 16 bit code under Windows
  51. 3.x and 32 bit code under Windows 95 or Windows
  52. NT.
  53.  
  54. INSTALLING ALMANAC
  55. ------------------
  56. The Almanac package includes a graphical Windows
  57. installation program using the standard name of
  58. SETUP.EXE.  You should place all of the files
  59. included in the release package on a floppy disk
  60. or in a temporary directory of your hard drive.
  61.  
  62. SETUP requires about 650K bytes of disk space on
  63. your hard drive to install Almanac to.
  64.

  75. Please take a moment to review all sections that
  76. apply to your installtion before proceeding.

  79. UPDATING A PREVIOUS ALMANAC INSTALLATION
  80. ----------------------------------------
  81. Almanac's SETUP utility has been enhanced to update
  82. a previous installation automatically.  Version 3.5
  83. of Almanac may be installed over version 3.0 or 3.1.
  84. SETUP will update the program and help files, and will
  85. not overwrite any existing data files on your hard
  86. disk.
  87.  
  88. If you specifically want SETUP to replace any
  89. release files such as the sample overlay files,
  90. delete them from your installation and then run
  91. SETUP.

  93.  
  94. INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS FOR WINDOWS NT
  95. ---------------------------------------------
  96. Almanac should be installed while running under
  97. the logon ID of the Almanac user.  Configuration
  98. information is maintained for the user in their
  99. area of the system registry.
  100.  
  101. Although this is the recommended approach to
  102. installation, you may have a specific need to
  103. install Almanac as Common system.  For example,
  104. if Almanac is maintaining an office schedule in
  105. a factory that operates multiple shifts, you may
  106. want the clerk for each shift to share the same
  107. Almanac system.  In this case, install Almanac
  108. for each user and specify the same target
  109. directory.  You may safely add users later -
  110. SETUP will not overwrite any existing data files.

  113. INSTALLING TO WINDOWS 95 or WINDOWS NT 4.0
  114. ---------------------------------------------
  115. Click the Start button on your desktop and then
  116. click 'Run...'.  Enter the location of the
  117. Almanac release files and SETUP utility into
  118. the edit box of the Run dialog.  For example:
  119.  
  120.            c:\temppath\SETUP.EXE
  121.  
  122. In the above example you will have to substitute
  123. the disk drive letter and pathname 'd:\temppath'
  124. with the location that the files can be found on
  125. your computer.
  126.

  128. INSTALLING TO WINDOWS 3.x or WINDOWS NT 3.x
  129. ---------------------------------------------
  130.  
  131. Run SETUP by selecting the 'Run...' command from the
  132. File menu of Program Manager or File Manager.  Enter
  133. "d:\SETUP32" as the Command Line, where "d" is the
  134. drive/directory that you are installing Almanac FROM
  135. (for example, A:\SETUP).  Select "OK".
  136.  
  137. 1. The first action performed by SETUP is to display the
  138.    date your computer is set to.  Almanac's calendar
  139.    will not operate correctly if your computer is not set
  140.    to the correct date.
  141.  
  142. 2. SETUP will then display an Installation Control window.
  143.    Three pushbuttons allow you to change the FROM and TO
  144.    drives and paths for your install.  SETUP initially
  145.    sets these values for you so that you can just click
  146.    the Install button if you do not need to make changes.
  147.  
  148.    If you are using Program Manager as your Windows shell,
  149.    SETUP will allow a Program Group to be selected
  150.    to receive the startup icon for Almanac.
  151.  
  152. SETUP will inform you when installation is complete.
  153.  
  154. If your Windows installation is configured for French,
  155. German, or Spanish language, or if you would like to
  156. customize Almanac for another foreign language, please
  157. read the following section.
  158.  
  159.  
  160. FOREIGN LANGUAGE OPTION
  161. -----------------------
  162. Although it would be difficult for us to create and
  163. distribute our shareware in multiple languages, it is
  164. important to try to meet the needs of the many
  165. customers who would enjoy such a capability.  Almanac
  166. 3.5 has been designed to provide the option of
  167. customizing the text that appears on the menu as well
  168. as the text of calendar displays and prints.
  169.  
  170. Almanac 3.5 will look for the file ALMSTR.TXT in the
  171. directory that it is executed from.  This file contains
  172. the foreign language equivalents for specific text that
  173. is used on Almanac's menus and displays.
  174.  
  175. If your Windows installation is configured for either
  176. the French, German, or Spanish language, Almanac's
  177. SETUP utility will ask you if you would like it to
  178. install the appropriate language information for
  179. you.
  180.  
  181. If you are running any other language than these or
  182. English, SETUP will direct you here for more
  183. information.
  184.  
  185. You can build your own ALMSTR.TXT file by first
  186. copying the ALMENG.TXT file from your release disk
  187. into your Almanac directory.  (SETUP does not
  188. install this file - you should only copy it from
  189. the release package onto your hard disk if you
  190. intend to customize Almanac for a language other
  191. than English.)  This file is a sample language
  192. template that contains the English text used in
  193. Almanac's menus and displays.  You can edit this
  194. file with Windows NOTEPAD or other ASCII text
  195. editor to create your own ALMSTR.TXT file.
  196. Simply replacie the English text with the
  197. appropriate text of the language you would like.
  198.  
  199. It is important that you do not add or delete
  200. any lines from this file.  Each line of the
  201. file contains text that Almanac will substitute
  202. for a specific area in the program.
  203.  
  204. Menu items contain an ampersand (&) character
  205. in front of the letter of the text that will
  206. be underlined and used for Alt-key selection.
  207. Hot keys, such as Ctrl-P for File.Print
  208. cannot be changed from their English derived
  209. defaults.
  210.  
  211. Almanac will automatically use the new text in
  212. ALMSTR.TXT the next time it is executed.  Be
  213. careful to leave the first line of ALMSTR.TXT
  214. unchanged.  This contains the major and minor
  215. version of Almanac so that later versions can
  216. avoid using the file if changes to the contents
  217. of the file must be made.

  220. like to send us, as well as any corrections that
  221. you think we should make to the files we are
  222. distributing!

  234.  SOFTWARE LICENSE
  235.  
  236.  Non-licensed users are granted a limited license to use Almanac
  237.  on a 30-day trial basis for the purpose of determining
  238.  whether Almanac is suitable for their needs.  The use
  239.  of Almanac, except for the initial 30-day trial,
  240.  requires registration.  The use of unlicensed copies of Almanac,
  241.  outside of the initial 30-day trial, by any person,
  242.  business, corporation, government agency or any other entity is
  243.  strictly prohibited.
  244.  
  245.  A single user license permits a user to use Almanac
  246.  only on a single computer.  Licensed users may use the
  247.  program on different computers, but may not use the program
  248.  on more than one computer at the same time.
  249.  
  250.  No one may modify or patch the Almanac executable files
  251.  in any way, including but not limited to decompiling,
  252.  disassembling, or otherwise reverse engineering the program.

  254.  A limited license is granted to copy and distribute Almanac
  255.  only for the trial use of others, subject to the above
  256.  limitations, and also the following:
  257.  
  258.   1)    Almanac and all of its release files must be
  259.         distributed in unmodified form, complete with the
  260.         file containing this license information.

  262.   2)    Almanac may not be distributed in conjunction with
  263.         any other product without a specific license to do so
  264.         from Impact Software.
  265.  
  266.   3)    No fee, charge, or other compensation may be requested or
  267.         accepted, except as authorized below:

  269.         A) Operators of electronic bulletin board systems (sysops)
  270.            may make Almanac available for downloading only as
  271.            long as the above conditions are met.  An overall or
  272.            time-dependent charge for the use of the bulletin board
  273.            system is permitted as long as there is not a specific
  274.            charge for the download of Almanac.

  276.         B) Vendors of user-supported or shareware software approved by
  277.            the ASP may distribute Almanac, subject to the
  278.            above conditions, without specific permission.  Non-
  279.            approved vendors may distribute Almanac only after
  280.            obtaining written permission from Impact Software.
  281.            Such permission is usually granted.  Please write for
  282.            details (enclose your catalog).

  284.         C) Non-profit user groups may distribute copies of the
  285.            Almanac diskette to their members, subject to
  286.            the above conditions, without specific permission.
  287.            Non-profit groups may collect a disk duplication fee
  288.            not to exceed five dollars.

  290.   LIMITED WARRANTY
  291.  
  292.   Impact Software warrants that all disks provided are
  293.   free from defects in material and workmanship, assuming
  294.   normal use, for a period of 90 days from the date of
  295.   purchase.

  297.   Impact Software warrants that the program will perform
  298.   in substantial compliance with the documentation supplied
  299.   with the software product.  If a significant defect in
  300.   the product is found, the Purchaser may return the
  301.   product for a refund.  In no event will such a refund
  302.   exceed the purchase price of the product.

  304.   EXCEPT AS PROVIDED ABOVE, IMPACT SOFTWARE DISCLAIMS ALL
  305.   WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
  306.   LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND
  307.   FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, WITH RESPECT TO THE
  308.   PRODUCT.  SHOULD THE PROGRAM PROVE DEFECTIVE, THE
  309.   PURCHASER ASSUMES THE RISK OF PAYING THE ENTIRE COST OF
  310.   ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR, OR CORRECTION AND ANY
  311.   INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.  IN NO EVENT WILL
  312.   IMPACT SOFTWARE BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER
  313.   (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF
  314.   BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF BUSINESS
  315.   INFORMATION AND THE LIKE) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR THE
  316.   INABILITY TO USE THIS PRODUCT EVEN IF IMPACT SOFTWARE
  317.   HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

  320.   your acceptance of this agreement and subjects you to its
